Review 5/01/2007 ISP Technologies Decimator ProRackG
This is a great unit, I don't mean to say great in a gentle way, this thing really is the Decimator of noise. I compared it to a comparable other product and found that the comparison was strongly one sided. The ProRackG simply does what the manufacturer says it can do and does it better. The unit is light but rich on features and easy to operate. It does not give off a heat signature like you may think and there are no fans to keep it cool. The electronics are such that the unit is completely self contained in a solid metal case.
Clipping is a problem everyone hates when it comes to noise reduction units. My stomp box unit is good for what it does and built like a tank however the ISP Decimator ProRackG somehow is able to boost my guitars signal so that is does not clip out prematurely, something the stomp box cannot do. It takes some experimentation with the knobs but you can actually dial it in to give you the maximum amount of quietness or dial it in with a little noise for just a little more sustaining power. The little LED lights beside each threshold knob are indicators for the gain reduction. You can watch these lights while hitting a note to see how much and hear how much you want to turn the threshold knobs down or up, the higher up the more quite it gets but to high and you get clipped, go to low and you get noisy again, so you have to look and listen as you make your adjustments, once dialed in you are left with amazement.
So how does this unit work it's magic? The Decimator ProRackG is the only system in the world designed with two channels of single ended noise reduction configured specifically for high gain guitar applications allowing one channel to deliver noise reduction for the guitar directly and a second channel to eliminate amplifier gain noise. Channel one eliminates the 50 or 60 cycle hum, buzz, stage light noise and any other noise picked up directly by the instrument. The ProRackG channel one output drives the front end of your guitar amplifier and eliminates all of the input noise picked up by the guitar. The control circuit of the second channel detects and tracks the guitar signal directly while the signal processing audio chain is patched into the effects loop of the high gain guitar amplifier. Now you can quiet down even the most insane amounts of noise with any amplifier system incorporating a series effects loop. The Decimator ProRackG will also solve the typical high gain feedback or squealing problem that the high gain guitar player fights.
Yes, folks this unit really does work. The company is easy to deal with and available. Taking into account the product and the company work ethic and you have a first class solution for unwanted noise. There is not a better system that we are aware of at this time in this price range. At around $400.00 the adage you get what you pay for comes to mind but in this case you get something that really does the trick. Johnny Hiland uses one and talks about that in his exclusive interview with AMG, check out the interview and hear one of the best guitar players in the world talk about his gear, music, future plans, and the Decimator ProRackG.
