Review 8/05/2007 George L's Basic 10' Instrument cable

George L's cables are award winning and backed by some major guitar talent. When the opportunity came up to test a basic George L's 10' instrument cable and the new George L's Cable kit American Made Guitars knew we were in for something special. Besides being a family owned down to earth Made in the USA type of company George L's cables have been at the forefront of high end cable innovations for decades. That’s the kind of company worth checking in to. The first impression right out of the package is pure excitement you just know by the craftsmanship that the George L's cable is a head above the rest. The way George L's crafts the cable ends look military spec, they have obviously put the time into creating a tank of a cable for a very affordable price. Eager to plug the cable in I ran into one small detail worth mentioning. The cable instantly tangled up into a nice set of figure eights. This can be easily fixed by letting the cable set in the sun uncoiled for an hour or so. I didn’t do that and the cable I'm using to test is still tangle prone. The tangle aspect does not really affect anything and can be dealt with rather easily so don’t let that stop you from getting these cables. Why get a George L's cable? Tone! You know who you are and you know your wanting the best in clear tone, George L's does provide this. Using the single cable I was provided plugged right to a 100 watt combo amp made more sense to me when it came to testing so without cabinet cables I was limited to what I could do with this test cable. Picture this I have a dozen or so cables from all over the place some factory some home made a couple Wall-Mart china cables you name it I'm using it to compare. The obvious and what seems to be the best indicator of a great cable is the harmonic tonal attributes one can achieve with a well made high end cable such as George L's. It is a great feeling to have great attack; response and musical transference all come together at once. Like a roller coaster ride every time I changed the cable out and plugged in a different cable the "Thrill Is Gone" so to speak. What hunter skins an animal with a dull knife comes to mind. Once convinced that the George L's cable was certainly all its award winning pedigree suggests I took a second closer look at the shields. Talk about stealthy, these cables are sexy. Everything from the components to the logo reeks class, truly a professional quality high end cable in both appearance and in play. For the price fitting up your entire rig with George L's cables is not only affordable but from what I gather from the one cable I tested, will be worth the effort and investment.

The Cable Kit comes with a Cable Checker, Cable Cutter, Screwdriver, 2 Cable Keepers, 2 straight stress relief jackets and guitar pick. No other cable makes you feel as secure as a George L's cable especially when you have your George L's cable kit with you. I know what it is like to watch a fellow musician struggle with a breaking cable during a live performance; I have been there and done that. George L's are the answer to several tone chaser requirements. Tone first up is answered with a resounding A, five stars, however you put it the cable cannot be overrated. Number two it is a tank of a cable backed up with a cable kit you can buy separately just in case you are as hard on your gear as a hurricane on the gulf, because that’s what it basically takes to tear one of these cables up. Three, it is affordable to outfit an entire rig with George L's. Tone chasers may not always admit price as an obstacle but all pride aside cost has always made some difference in forcing a choice or two for millions of people.
